Venice

From art galleries to happening nightclubs, this district has a lively spirit.

Welcome to Venice

Canals and Gondolas. Gondoliers are exercising their lungs, singing their melodious songs while steering you to your destination. Back in the day, this sight is what would have welcomed you to Venice, California, with its 16 miles of canals bending throughout the district. Venice was conceptualized with the city of northern Italy in mind; this is why Abbot Kinney set it up as such in 1905.

The Venice of today doesn’t have all that many canals left to glide over, but there are still a handful you can look at and imagine what it might have been like in the past. The one thing that has been kept constant in Venice is its beach, which is famous worldwide. The mile-long stretch attracts visitors and locals alike, no matter what the season, after all, this is California, and the weather here is gentle regardless of the time of year.

A Bohemian atmosphere reverberates all around Venice. The colorful shops along the boardwalk, the buskers who show off their skills and talents for a pretty penny, and all the artists with their strong creative passions give Venice its undeniably original flavor. From art galleries to happening nightclubs, this district has a lively spirit.

Skating around in the proclaimed skating capital of the world, strutting your stuff in Muscle Beach, riding the waves at the Venice Breakwater, or simply swimming, cycling, and sunbathing are some of the activities that can take your breath away in Venice. Found between Marina del Rey and Santa Monica, this funky destination is host to an old-fashioned boat parade down the canals in December and is home to an eclectic group of people who love life.
